Jacob Baklanov is the only child of Anton Baklanov and his (unnamed) wife. He is 13 and living in Washington, DC, at the time of his father's forced exfiltration back to the Soviet Union. ("A Little Night Music")
Although he does not wish to be in Russia working for the Soviets, that Jacob does not know his fate, and may assume his father simply abandoned him, is the single biggest source of unhappiness for Anton. He writes pages of letters to his son, stashing them in his mattress, where they are discovered by Nina. ("One Day in the Life of Anton Baklanov") Nina is moved by both the letters and her friendship with Anton, and attempts to reach Jacob with word that his father is still alive. ("Pastor Tim (Episode)") When her plan is foiled, Nina is executed. ("Chloramphenicol")
