Martin Gurrin in an American diplomat who lives in the Washington, D.C. area. He is part of a negotiating team, that includes Glenn Haskard, preparing for the summit between Reagan and Gorbachev.
Martin invites co-workers to a party at his house to watch game 6 of the 1987 baseball World Series. Erica Haskard attends, at the behest of her husband and Elizabeth, who has bugged Glenn's jacket to record his conversation with Fyodor Nesterenko, another party guest.
Martin has a wife, Hollie. Although an adolescent is seen at the party, is is unclear if Martin and Hollie have children.
