Biography[]
Backstory[]
Oleg was born to an influential family in the Soviet Union. His father is the Minister of Transportation. His mother is Yelena and he had a brother who served in the Soviet Army as a captain until he was killed in Afghanistan in 1983.
His brother did not get a proper military burial since the government wouldn't publicly acknowledge the war in Afghanistan. This angered both Oleg and his father.
As a young man, Oleg studied at Bauman Technical University and was eventually recruited by the KGB.
Throughout the series
Before Nina Krilova was sent back to the Soviet Union for treason, he fell in love with her. He later collaborated with FBI agent Stan Beeman in a failed attempt to save her. Oleg betrayed his lover Tatiana, by providing information to Stan that led to the capture and death of William Crandall.
Oleg returned to the Soviet Union in 1984, where he lived at home and investigated corruption in the Soviet food supply. He eventually left the KGB altogether and worked for the government in his father's area for urban transport planning.
By 1987, he had married a childhood playmate (Elina), and has a one year old son, Sasha. He leaves them to return to the US at Arkady's request, enrolling in a university course as a cover for meetings with Philip Jennings. Oleg is ultimately arrested by the FBI while picking up a dead drop. As he was not in the US on official KGB business, he lacked diplomatic immunity, and was imprisoned. The series ends with Oleg still in jail; his ultimate fate is not revealed.
