Sofia Ivanova Kovalenko-Bystrova (Russian: София Ивановна Ковапеико-Бьстрова) is an employee with the TASS news agency. In a bid to recruit contacts within Soviet companies, Stan Beeman and Dennis Aderholt meet with her and ask questions about how the agency works. In exchange they offer her money but she wants a guarantee of safety for her and her young son, which Aderholt says may be possible.
She later informs them that a Soviet hockey star is one of the couriers who ships secret information and objects back and forth for the KGB when he visits the United States. She later brings her lover to meet them.
By 1987, Sofia has married Gennadi Bystov, but she is deeply unsatisfied with their marriage. Sofia's throat is slit by Elizabeth, when she inadvertently walks in on her murder of Gennadi.
